Choosing the Right Deadbolt Lock

Deadbolt locks come in a few key configurations, and selecting the right one depends on your door type, the level of access control you need, and whether you want key operation on one or both sides.

A single cylinder deadbolt is operated by key from the outside and by a thumbturn from the inside - the most common choice for front and rear residential doors. A double cylinder deadbolt requires a key on both sides, which is often preferred where a door has glazing nearby that could otherwise allow someone to reach in and turn a thumbturn.

Deadbolt Lock for Front Door

A deadbolt lock for a front door should meet BS8621 or equivalent UK security standards, particularly if your insurer requires a key-operated lock on both sides. Look for a deadbolt with anti-pick, anti-drill, and anti-snap features for maximum resistance to the most common forms of forced entry.

A deadbolt door lock works well alongside a latch or multipoint lock system, giving you an additional line of defence on your most-used entry point.
