Rim Locks

Rim locks are relatively easy to install and can be a cost-effective option for securing a door, such as bathroom doors. They are available in a variety of styles, including traditional, antique, and modern designs. Some rim locks also have the option for a deadbolt, which provides an additional layer of security.

What is a rim lock?

A rim lock, also known as a surface-mounted lock, is a type of door lock that is installed on the surface of a door, rather than in the door itself. Rim locks are typically used on interior doors and are often found in older homes. They consist of a latch mechanism that is mounted on the inside of the door, and a keyed lock with a handle that is mounted on the outside of the door.

One of the main benefits of using a rim lock is that it does not require the door to be drilled, which can be a major advantage for older homes or for those who want to preserve the integrity of their doors. Additionally, rim locks are often less expensive than other types of locks, making them a popular choice for budget-conscious consumers.

However, rim locks also have some limitations. They are typically not as secure as other types of locks and may not provide enough security for external doors or for homes in high-crime areas. It is also recommended that you use additional locking methods like using a deadbolt to enhance the security.
